How to create custom fields for jobs and clients

In this article, you will learn how to customize your job and client pages with custom fields.

Workiz was designed to fit the needs of most service businesses, but you may find that your organization needs a bit more customization when it comes to creating jobs and adding clients. You can accomplish this by creating custom fields so that you can add all the extra information you’ll ever need for a job or client.

Enabling the Custom Fields feature

  1. From the navigation bar, select the Feature Center

    Not seeing the Feature Center icon in the navigation bar? You may not have the correct permissions set for your user.

    Please contact your account admin and ask them to turn on the Account Settings permission for your user type from the Roles & Permissions settings page.

  2. Under Most Popular, select Custom Fields

  3. Turn the toggle switch on/off to enable/disable the feature

Creating custom fields

Job custom fields

  1. From the navigation bar, select the profile icon > Settings
  2. Under Job settings, select Custom Fields

  3. From the Job tab, select Add new
  4. Create your custom field:

    1. Field type: Choose the type of field you want to create (e.g., text, numbers, date, files, checkbox, etc.)
    2. Group: Choose or create a group for this custom field
    3. Field name
    4. Job types: Choose the job types that should include this custom field
    5. Required: Decide whether this field should be required to create a new job
    6. Required to close: Decide whether this field should be required to close a job
    7. Searchable: Decide whether you want the data for this custom field to be searchable
    8. Select Save

Client custom fields

  1. From the navigation bar, select the profile icon > Settings
  2. Under Job Settings, select Custom Fields

  3. Select the Client tab
  4. From the Client tab, select Add new
  5. Create your custom field:

    1. Group: Choose or create a group for this custom field
    2. Field type: Choose the type of field you want to create (e.g., text, numbers, date, images, checkbox, etc.)
    3. Field name
    4. Searchable: Decide whether you want the data for this custom field to be searchable
    5. Select Save

Deleting custom fields

If you no longer want custom fields to appear when you are creating new jobs or clients, you can easily delete them from the Custom Fields page.

Workiz also makes it possible to limit job custom fields to specific job types. Consider doing this before deleting the custom field altogether.

  1. From the navigation bar, select the profile icon > Settings
  2. Under Job Settings, select Custom Fields

  3. Select the custom field you want to delete and select DeleteYes, I am sure

Updating custom fields on the Workiz mobile app

While you won't be able to create new custom fields from the Workiz mobile app, you will be able to edit those existing fields while on the go. To learn more about updating existing custom fields using the Workiz mobile app, please see this article.
