In this article, you will learn about your options for sharing Performance Pay commission information with your team members.
If your business pays technicians commission through Performance Pay, they've probably asked you at some point, "how much did I make this week?" or "how was this number calculated?" Without a way to check for themselves, the only answer is to ask the office, which means an interruption for you and a nagging "I hope this is right" feeling for them.
Giving technicians visibility into their own Performance Pay earnings fixes that. When a tech can see their own totals and the math behind them, they don't need to ask – they can just look. It builds trust in the numbers, and it frees up your time.
There are two ways to share this data with a technician: give them direct access to their own report in the Workiz web app, or export the report yourself and send it to them. Both are legitimate; this article covers when to use each.
Recommended: Give technicians direct access to the report
The best way to share Performance Pay data is to let technicians log in and view their own report whenever they want. It's self-serve, it's always current, and it doesn't require you to do anything repeatedly. Once it's set up, you're done.
Technicians almost always use the Workiz mobile app in the field, and the mobile app doesn't currently have reporting. For a tech to see their Performance Pay report, they need to log into the Workiz web app from a browser.
Give techs access to their Performance Pay report
- From the top navigation bar, select your profile icon > Settings
- Under Users & Roles, select Roles & Permissions
- Select the role assigned to the technician or create a dedicated role for techs who need report access
- On the Actions tab, Financial Data > On
- On the Actions tab, Other Users Jobs > Off
- This permission controls whether a user can see jobs, schedules, and messages belonging to other team members, and it's off by default for the Tech role.
- On the Reports tab, Performance Pay Report > On
- Select Save
What the technician sees
Once access is confirmed working, the technician can log into the Workiz web app and open their Performance Pay report to see:
- Their aggregate total
- The total commission they've earned over a selected time period (the report defaults to the current week; the date range can be widened, such as to the last 30 days or a custom range)
- The job-by-job breakdown
- Expanding their name in the report reveals every qualifying job, with the client, job dates, job total, job cost, the commission trigger event, the rate applied, and the resulting commission and tax amounts
Because the report only includes jobs marked done, a technician's total will update as jobs are completed and marked done, not the moment work is finished in the field.
Alternative: Export the report and send it manually
Some admins prefer to keep report access limited to the office and just send technicians their numbers directly (by exporting the report and emailing it, for example). This is a perfectly reasonable way to share Performance Pay data; it's just more hands-on than giving a technician direct login access, since you'll need to repeat it each time they want an update.
How to export and send a technician's Performance Pay data
- Go to Reports and open the Performance Pay report
- By default, the report lists every technician for the selected date range. Filter it down to the one technician you're sending it to before doing anything else, using the search box above the table (searching by name narrows the report to just that person)
- With the filter applied, confirm the report now shows only that technician's row and jobs
- Select Export
- Send the exported file to that technician
Always search for the tech’s name to filter the report to a single technician before exporting. The default, unfiltered report lists every technician's commission data side by side. If you export and send that version to one tech, you're sharing all of your other technicians' commission information with them too. Double-check the filter is applied before you export and send.
Which approach should you use?
Giving technicians direct access to their own Performance Pay report is the better long-term solution for most businesses: it's self-serve, always up to date, and takes the office out of the loop entirely. Exporting and sending manually is a reasonable choice if you'd rather keep report access limited to the office, as long as you're careful to filter to the right technician every time.
