Changing the phone number used for 2FA

In this article, you will learn how to update the phone number you use for two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging in.

2FA adds an extra layer of security beyond just using a password. When enabled in Workiz, users must enter a verification code sent to their mobile phone number or email address in addition to their password when logging in.

Text-based verification codes are sent to the phone number saved on the user’s profile. These phone numbers can be updated at any time, but the process of doing so may vary depending on whether you're:

  • An admin wanting to update your own number
  • An admin wanting to update another user's number

Updating the phone number saved to a user profile does not impact how calls are routed in Workiz Phone.

Workiz Phone call routing is typically configured by routing calls to a specific user within the system, not to the phone number saved on that user’s profile. The phone number saved to a user profile is used exclusively for two-factor authentication (2FA) purposes.

Updating your 2FA phone number (primary admin)

As an admin, changing the phone number used for 2FA will first require you to disable 2FA on your account. To disable 2FA, you must still have access to your current verification number in order to complete the verification process.

If you no longer have access to the phone number saved to your user profile, please contact support for assistance.

  1. From the top navigation bar, select your profile icon > Settings
  2. Under General settings, select Security Center
  3. Disable the toggle switch for Require two-factor authentication (2FA)

  4. Enter the verification code sent to your existing user number and select Verify
  5. From the top navigation bar, select your profile icon > Manage team
  6. Select your user
  7. Under User details, update the phone number saved to your profile

  8. Select Save
  9. Go back to the Security Center and re-enable 2FA

Updating another team member's 2FA number

As an admin, you can change another user's phone number at any time — regardless of whether that user still has access to that phone number. 

  1. From the top navigation bar, select your profile icon > Manage team
  2. Select the user you want to update
  3. Under User details, update the phone number saved to their profile
