In this article, you will learn how assigned technicians work with projects and sub-jobs.
Projects is a Feature Center tool designed to bring structure to complex work. It allows you to organize multiple related jobs under one workflow so you can manage phases, track progress, coordinate teams, and keep everything connected throughout the lifecycle of a larger project.
Projects are designed to include multiple connected — each with its own status, schedule, job type, and assigned technicians.
Assigning technicians to project-connected jobs
In Workiz, technicians are assigned directly to the jobs within a project, not the project itself. Technicians can be assigned to jobs from the project page or the job page. Here, we will focus on making these quick changes from the project page.
- Open the project you want to edit
- Select the job you want to assign a tech to
Select Assign tech and choose the tech you want to add
Project-level access for assigned technicians
When a technician is assigned to a job within a project, they are automatically granted access to the entire project and all other jobs within it — even if they are not explicitly assigned to those jobs. This behavior overrides other level access permissions to ensure technicians have full visibility into the overall project (e.g., other user's jobs).
This is designed to give your technicians full context into the entire scope of work, helping them understand how their assigned tasks fit into the broader project.
Updating project-connected jobs
After they've been assigned to a job within a project, your team members will be notified of this new job assignment and have access to it in the Workiz mobile app.
Here, technicians have the same permissions they would on a standalone job. For example, if they’re able to update line items or change a job’s status on a standalone job, they’ll have the same capabilities on any project-connected job they’re assigned to.
Based on your account permissions, technicians will typically be able to perform the following actions on a sub-job:
- Update statuses
- Add line items
- Create estimates
- Upload attachments
- Update tasks
- Track equipment
- Complete checklists
