Allowing negative stock levels in inventory

In this article, you will learn how to allow your stock levels to go negative so your team can keep working even when inventory is low.

Allowing your inventory to go negative makes it easier to track what parts need to be reordered. When your team uses an item that's not restocked yet, the system subtracts it into the negatives, giving you an accurate picture of what to buy and how much without stopping the job from progressing.

By default, your Workiz account will not allow you to add inventory items to a job when the quantity is not supported by your inventory level. You can modify your inventory experience from account settings.

Enabling negative inventory quantities for your account

In order to enable negative quantities for inventory, you'll first have to enable the Inventory add-on from the Feature Center. To learn more about activating this feature, please see this article.

  1. From the top navigation bar, select your profile icon > Account
  2. Scroll down and enable the toggle next to Allow negative inventory quantity

What your team will see

After enabling this setting, your team will still receive a warning when inventory levels fall below the quantity they're adding to a job — but they'll be able to continue and record the shortage for your admins to review.

The negative inventory quantity will be visible in your inventory management page alongside a "LOW STOCK" badge.
