Creating a new job from an estimate

  • Updated

In this article, you will learn how to copy an estimate to a job.

Estimates are an effective way of providing your customers with an understanding of what your services will cost and consist of. Getting approval from your customers sets all parties up for a great service experience.

What comes after the estimate will depend on how your organization does business. In Workiz, estimates can be copied to invoices or jobs.

How to create a job from an estimate

How you create a job from an estimate will depend on whether you are working with a standalone estimate or an estimate that is already connected to an existing job.

Standalone estimates

Standalone estimates can be used to create new jobs, allowing you to quickly copy existing estimate details.

  1. Open the estimate you want to copy
  2. Select Actions > Copy to job
    Group 6327943.png
  3. Create your new job

Job-connected estimates

Won and approved estimates that are already connected to a job can be used to create new, separate jobs.

  1. Open the job that has the estimate
  2. Select the Estimates tab
  3. Select the invoice you want to use for the new job
  4. Under the estimate line items, select Create new job
    Group 6327942.png
  5. Create your new job

Workiz will automatically sync the estimate details (e.g., items, attachments, status, deposits, etc.) from the original job to the new job. The client details and job source will automatically be added when creating the new job.

Changes to the estimate ID

When you create a new job from an estimate, the estimate's ID will change to reflect its new connection.

  • Standalone estimates (e.g., estimate ID 200) will be converted to a job-connected format (e.g., 120-1) to signal that it is now connected to a job (e.g, job ID 120).
  • Job-connected estimates (e.g., estimate ID 10-1) will be updated to match the new job ID (e.g., 20-1) to indicate that they are now connected to a different job.
