Creating and using searchable custom fields

  • Updated

In this article, you will learn how to create and work with searchable custom fields.

Searchable custom fields allow you to capture the exact information your business needs and quickly find the relevant jobs or clients later on.

Creating a searchable custom field

  1. From the top navigation bar, select your profile icon > Settings
  2. Under Job settings, select Custom fields
  3. Select Add new to create your job or client custom field
  4. Set the field type to Text or Large text

Only text-based custom fields can be made searchable. Number, checkbox, dropdown, and all other types of fields cannot be made searchable.

  5. Set the custom field to be searchable by enabling the toggle

Searching for custom field data

You can use the custom field data to search for relevant jobs and clients by using the search bar in the navigation menu at the top of the page. Custom field data will not be searchable in any other search bar.

If a match is found, Workiz will display the relevant jobs and/or clients in your search results.

Why some data isn't searchable

Custom field data will only be searchable for jobs or clients created after the field was made searchable. This applies whether the field was set as searchable when first created or if the searchable toggle was turned on later for an existing field. Jobs or clients created before this change won’t be included in search results for that field.
