Sending tech photos, bios, and ETAs with On My Way Plus

In this article, you will learn how to use On My Way Plus to send enhanced "on my way" messages. 

With On My Way Plus, your team can now send "on my way" messages that include a photo of the assigned technician, a short bio, and a real-time ETA — all accessible via the client portal.

Before you can start sending enhanced messages with On My Way Plus, you will need to:

  1. Enable the add-on from the Feature Center
  2. Edit your team's profile photos and bios
  3. Set up location tracking permissions for your team

Without On My Way Plus, your "on my way" messages can only contain basic text. You will not be able to provide clients with the technician's photo, bio, or ETA.

Enabling On My Way Plus

On My Way Plus is an add-on that can be enabled from the Feature Center. 

  1. From the top navigation bar, select the Feature Center
  2. Select On My Way Plus

  3. Turn the toggle switch on to enable the add-on

Editing your team's profile photos and bios

After enabling On My Way Plus, you can head over to your team management page to begin editing your team's profile photos and bios. 

All Workiz admins can upload profile photos, but editing a team member’s short bio is only available for accounts with On My Way Plus enabled.

  1. From the top navigation bar, select your profile iconManage team
  2. Select the team member you want to update
  3. Upload a profile picture

    1. Next to Profile picture, select Upload image
    2. Upload a photo for your team member that will be displayed to clients when an "on my way" message is sent
  4. Edit the short bioGroup 632897OMWPLUS-settings.png
    1. Under Short bio, enter a brief message that will be displayed to clients when an "on my way" message is sent
  5. Select Save
  6. Repeat Steps 2–5 for your remaining team members

Setting up location tracking permissions

To give your clients an accurate ETA for your technician’s arrival, On My Way Plus requires location tracking permissions across the Workiz web app, mobile app, and the technician’s mobile device.

This section will require actions from both the admin and each team member on their own device.

    1. From the Workiz web app, select your profile icon > Manage team 
    2. Select the team member you want to update
    3. Check the box for Track location

      You'll need to make sure the Map/GPS Tracking add-on is already enabled in the Feature Center before you can track a user's location.

    4. Select Save
    5. Repeat Steps 2–4 for your remaining team members
  • After enabling location tracking from a team member’s profile page, each team member must go into their mobile device settings to allow location tracking both at the device level and for the Workiz app specifically by selecting it from the list of apps in their location settings.

    The steps below are specifically for team members using an iPhone. While they may provide general guidance for team members with an Android device, the setup process differs slightly. For for detailed Android instructions, please see this article.

    1. From your mobile device, go to your device settings
    2. Select Privacy & Security 
    3. Select Location Services 
    4. Enable Location Services

    5. From this page, scroll down and select Workiz from the app list
    6. Set the location access to Always and Precise Location

  • Once location tracking has been set up on the mobile device, each team member must also go into the Workiz mobile app to allow location tracking from the app settings page.

    1. From your mobile device, open the Workiz app
    2. In the upper-left corner of your screen, select the bars icon ( ) > Settings
    3. Check the box for Location tracking

Sending enhanced 'on my way' messages

After enabling the add-on, updating your team's profiles, and setting up all of the required device/app permissions for location tracking, you may begin sending enhanced "on my way" messages from the mobile app.

  1. From the Workiz mobile app, open a job
  2. Select ETA

  3. Select Send

    On My Way Plus messages can only be sent via text message. This means your business will need to be registered for text messages (A2P 10DLC). To learn more about registering for text messages, please see this article.

What your clients will see

Your clients will receive a text that includes a brief message followed by a link to the client portal. After opening the link, clients will see the assigned technician's photo, bio, and ETA.

The initial ETA is calculated using your technician’s GPS location, distance to the job address, and real-time traffic conditions. While the ETA updates minute by minute for a seamless client experience, Workiz periodically re-checks the technician’s GPS location to keep the arrival time as accurate as possible.

What you will see

As an admin, Workiz allows you to receive notifications whenever a team member sends an “on my way” message. You can also be alerted when the technician arrives at the job, helping you ensure timely arrivals and team accountability.

To enable "on my way" alerts:

  1. From the top navigation bar, select your profile icon > Settings
  2. Under Calls & Texts, select Text messages
  3. Under On the way message template, turn the toggle switch on for Inform me when a technician sends this message
