What are Custom Attributes added to line items?

Great question! Whether you’re invoicing a customer or checking out your inventory list, sometimes a product or service that you offer will require a little bit more explanation necessary.

For example, if you’re a locksmith, you could use this field for things like lock size, door handle finish, hours it took to install new locks, supplier, etc. Using custom attributes added to line items would allow you to itemize your service (i.e. a heavy-duty door handle) and add an extra column on your customer invoice, showing added info about this service (an extra charge for item.)

How to Add Custom Attributes to your Line Items
 From the Settings Page

  1. From the right-hand navigation bar, select the Settings cogwheel.
  2. From the dropdown, select Settings.
  3. Under Job Settings, select Items & Products.
  4. Click an existing item or select +Add New.
  5. Fill out the Create or Edit Items page and update any necessary info.

8. Add your description text for the item:
9. From the dropdown, select whether this item requires:
   a. Text: Free text

   c. Quantity based number: (A number that multiplied by the quantity of the line item, i.e. work hours.)
10. Tick the box next to Visible On Item List, if you want this to be visible to your customer.
11. When your item is added, you’ll see a message that says, “Success. Custom attribute created.”
12. Click Save, on the Edit Item form, to save all changes, and leave this page.
13. When successfully completed, you’ll see a “Success. Item Updated” message.

Adding Custom Item Attributes onto a Client’s Invoice

After you have added custom item attributes via your inventory list or the Settings page in Workiz, you’ll be able to directly add them on to a Client’s invoice (if you have indicated that they’re visible on the item list when setting this up.) Here’s how to do so….

  1. From the left-hand navigation bar in Workiz, select Invoices.
  2. Select an existing invoice you wish to modify.
  3. Select either the Inventory or the Invoice tab.
  4. Select +Add item.
  5. Add the product or service you’re adding to your invoice which contains a custom item attribute (i.e. new lock,, with a custom attribute of Heavy Duty.)

6. Now, click on that service to get to the Add Job Items screen.
7. Fill out this screen and click Save when you’re finished.

8. This product or service now appears on your customer invoice, which contains the custom item attributes.
